A drug smuggling attempt of hydroponic weed worth around Rs 2 crore was stopped at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, after personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force intercepted a loader working inside the terminal.
According to details shared by CISF (Central Industrial Security Forces) on its official ‘X' handle, the incident took place on March 20, 2026.
The loader was stopped while exiting the terminal building carrying a backpack. During routine screening through the X-ray baggage inspection (X-BIS) system, security personnel noticed suspicious contents inside the bag.
The alert prompted immediate intervention, and the individual was subjected to further checking.
On closer inspection, CISF personnel found a contraband substance hidden inside the backpack. Authorities later confirmed that the seized material was hydroponic weed weighing around 2 kilograms.

The estimated market value of the recovered narcotic was stated to be close to Rs 2 crore, indicating a high-value smuggling attempt through the airport.

Following the detection, the individual along with the seized contraband was handed over to the Customs Department for further investigation and legal action.
In its communication, CISF highlighted the role of its personnel, stating that their alertness and timely response helped prevent the smuggling attempt and ensured security at the airport.
The case has raised concerns about the possible use of airport staff and internal access points in smuggling activities. Authorities are expected to examine whether there are wider links or networks involved in the case.

According to data released by the Ministry of Finance, the Airport Commissionerate at Mumbai's CSMIA recorded seizures of more than 1,330 kilograms of hydroponic weed in 244 cases during the financial year 2025–26 up to March 18, 2026.
