In one of the worst terror attacks on the Army in Jammu & Kashmir, 17 Army personnel were killed and 20 left injured early on Sunday by four heavily armed terrorists, who sneaked into the administrative buildings and store complex of an infantry battalion in Uri, home of the 12 Infantry Brigade, near the Line of Control (LoC).

2. Rise Above Politics to Tackle Menace: CM Arvind Kejriwal
Back in the city on Sunday after a throat surgery in Bengaluru, a visibly-subtle Arvind Kejriwal stressed on the “need for all to rise above political affiliation to tackle the mosquito menace on a war footing“.
“The past few days have seen much politics” on the chikungunya and dengue outbreak in Delhi, but the political sparring is meaningless as mosquitoes don't differentiate between a Congress and a BJP supporter”, the Chief Minister said in a video message.
“Mosquitoes don't know who belongs to which party. Leaving politics behind, all should come together to fight the menace, he urged.

A homemade bomb exploded in the Chelsea neighbourhood of Manhattan, New York, on a busy Saturday night in what authorities said was an “intentional act” of terrorism.
Although there were no fatalities, 29 people were injured, and the discovery of an unexploded pressure cooker bomb soon after was a grim reminder of the terrorist attacks the city has repeatedly suffered.

5. Army to Turn on Heat, Asks Govt to Consider Cross-Border Strikes
The Army is going to turn the heat on Pakistan along the 778-km Line of Control (LoC) with concentrated artillery barrages, sniping and other operations, even as a section of the Indian security establishment wants the government to also consider “limited but punitive cross-border strikes” to send an unequivocal message to Pakistan.
But while “enhanced military pressure” along the LoC is a tactical move to impose some costs on the Pakistan Army, the government will have to take a considered decision on conventional cross-border strikes.
