After a beam collapsed at an under-construction Metro Line 2B project of the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on Wednesday, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) assured that no injuries or casualties were reported. The state-run agency also added that restoration efforts are being carried out on priority.
According to MMRDA officials, the incident occurred during overnight construction work near the Asian Heart Hospital junction, where a mobile crane weighing approximately 400 tonnes toppled while lifting a pre-cast concrete beam. The mishap was attributed to a mechanical failure in the crane during the lifting process. The work was being carried out by the project's contractor, J. Kumar Infraprojects Ltd.
MMRDA stated that despite the scale of the incident, no loss of life or injuries were reported. Soon after the incident, senior officials from the authority rushed to the site to assess the situation and oversee immediate response measures.

To ensure swift clearance of the toppled crane and minimise disruption to traffic in the busy BKC area, a higher-capacity crane of 600 tonnes is being mobilised for the recovery operation. MMRDA teams are coordinating closely with the contractor to safely remove the damaged equipment and the affected beam.
"In consultation with the traffic police, traffic diversions have been put in place. Every effort is being made to reopen the road to traffic at the earliest and ensure there is the least inconvenience to citizens," an MMRDA official said in a statement.

Traffic movement around the Asian Heart Hospital junction has been regulated as a precautionary measure, with commuters advised to follow diversion signs and traffic police instructions. MMRDA further assured that additional safety checks and inspections are being conducted at the site following the incident.
Necessary corrective measures and strengthened safety protocols are being implemented to prevent recurrence during future construction activities. Metro Line 2B is a key east-west connectivity project intended to improve transport links across Mumbai's western suburbs and business districts.
