Oil companies in India on Friday issued advisories and dismissed claims circulating on social media about a possible shortage of petrol and diesel in the country amid the ongoing war in Iran and closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on X, the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) said that rumors of petrol and diesel shortages are completely unfounded.
"India has ample fuel reserves and supply chains are running normally. BPCL is fully operational and committed to uninterrupted fuel supply. Please don't rely on rumors or crowd fuel stations and only rely on official sources for further information.”

Similarly, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) also issued an advisory through its ‘X' account, stating that some misleading messages regarding shortage of petrol and diesel are circulating in certain areas.
"These claims are completely unfounded. Fuel supplies across Bharat remain normal. Adequate stocks of petrol, diesel, and LPG are available, and supply operations continue smoothly across the country HPCL remains fully operational and is committed to ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability for all customers through its nationwide retail network.”

“Citizens are requested not to panic or rush to fuel stations and to rely only on official sources for accurate information,” the company urged.

Indian Oil Corporation Limited also issued a clarification on X. The company said that reports on social media suggesting a shortage of petrol and diesel are baseless.
"India has sufficient fuel stocks, and supply and distribution networks are functioning normally. IndianOil is committed to maintaining uninterrupted fuel supply across the country. Citizens are requested not to panic or crowd fuel stations and to rely only on official sources for accurate information,” Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. wrote on its ‘x' account.

India has enough crude Oil Stock
Meanwhile, government sources on Friday told NDTV Profit that Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL), a division of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, along with other refineries in the country, currently has sufficient crude oil stock.
According to the sources, India is now receiving a larger share of its energy supplies from other parts of the world rather than relying heavily on the Strait of Hormuz. Senior government officials said the country's overall energy situation remains comfortable.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Friday directed oil marketing companies (OMCs) to give priority to domestic LPG supply.
Refiners have been instructed to ensure that propane and butane are mainly used for producing LPG meant for household consumption, instead of diverting these components for industrial production.
The directive was issued after a high-level meeting of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas chaired by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday.
