The Union government on Wednesday tabled their second supplementary demand for grants in Parliament, seeking to spend an additional sum of Rs 59,876 crore for financial year 2016-17. The resultant spending is expected to lead to a net cash outgo of Rs 35,171 crore, according to the supplementary demand for grants presented in the Lok Sabha by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
While most of the additional spending is expected to be utilised towards rural jobs, a portion has also been allocated towards defence procurement, village telephone services, as well as implementation of pay panel dues.
The government had requested its first supplementary demand for grants in August, seeking to spend Rs 1.03 lakh crore, with a net cash outgo of Rs 20,948 crore.
