(Bloomberg) -- The volume of options on an index wagering on European stock volatility surged to a record this month, and futures outstanding hit an all-time high. With the VStoxx Index near its lowest since 2014 and equities hovering close to their highest in more than a year, investors are hedging as the upcoming French elections could threaten the current calm. The first round of voting will be on April 23 and the second on May 7.
