(Bloomberg) -- China may hold the global population title longer than expected if it goes ahead with a plan to pay families to have a second child. China's population had been on track to be surpassed by India in 2022, when both nations were expected to have about 1.4 billion people, according to a UN report in July 2015, which revised the switch-over target forward. That was one of many revisions to this coming milestone over the years.
