One of the two Nord Stream gas leaks in Sweden's exclusive economic zone remains visible on the surface of the water, according to a statement by the country's coastguard.

After carrying out air reconnaissance at about 11 a.m. Stockholm time on Tuesday, the Swedish coastguard said that the leak is “reaching the surface in an area measuring about 20 meters (65.617 feet) in diameter.”

The rupture was originally the smaller of two leaks that were disclosed in the Swedish zone last week. The larger leak has not been visible on the surface since Monday morning, the coastguard said.

Last week also saw a further two leaks recorded in Denmark's exclusive economic zone, prompting investigations and increased security for the region's key energy infrastructure. The Nord Stream pipelines traverse the Baltic Sea to Germany from Russia, running on the seabed in international waters.
