Late Sunjay Kapur's mother Rani Kapur has written to the UK police for deeper investigation into her son's death, sources told NDTV Profit on Monday. In her letter, the former Sona Comstar chairperson has alleged that Sunjay was murdered and there is credible and concerning evidence supporting the claim.

Rani Kapur has requested for investigation into the alleged questionable circumstances behind her son's death, the persons privy to the matter said. She also added there is reason to believe that Sunjay’s death may have been facilitated or orchestrated as part of a coordinated transnational conspiracy.

She claims to have come into possession of records that point to prima facie forged legal and financial documents and dubious asset transfers and suspicious legal findings.

In her letter, she has also requested the UK police to seize evidence that include medical records, financial documents, digital communications and forensic evidence. In addition, she has asked the police to work with the Indian and US authorities to investigate possible international aspects of the crime.

Notably, Sunjay Kapur died in London on June 12, with the cause of death reported as heart attack. He is survived by his wife Priya Sachdev, two children, and his sisters Mandira Kapur and Superna Motwane.

Last month, while speaking to ANI, Rani Kapur shared that she still doesn't know what happened to her son. "I am old now. I need closure before I go," she told the news agency.

On July 25, Rani Kapur wrote to the board of Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd., also known as Sona Comstar, seeking a deferment of the company's Annual General Meeting, alleging coercion, misuse of documents, and attempts to usurp the family’s legacy following Sunjay Kapur’s death. She made the request through her legal representatives.

In response, Sona BLW said that Rani Kapur is neither a shareholder nor an official of the company, and therefore has no legal standing to influence corporate decisions. “Her consent is not required for running the business,” the company said in a statement.

In a statement on July 28, Sona BLW stated that the auto components manufacturer is not a 'family run' business. In a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges, the company said that Rani Kapur has 'no locus standi' on any business matter related to the company and has also not held direct or indirect role in the company "since at least 2019".
