L&T Bags Over Rs 7,000-Crore Contract For Bullet Train Project

Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) bagged a contract worth over Rs 7,000 crore from the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) to construct 87.569 kilometres of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed bullet train corridor. L&T emerged as the lowest bidder in the auction of the project, which comprises the 87.569 km stretch of the viaduct - a type of bridge - between Vadodara and Ahmedabad, and the Anand/Nadiad Station. An NHSRCL official said that the company has awarded the letter of agreement (LoA) to L&T for the C6 package contract. The scope of work for the C6 package includes the construction of viaducts, one station, major river bridges, maintenance depots, and other auxiliary works. The 508-km long Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) The rolling stock of the bullet train is being developed on the Japanese E5 Shinkansen technology. The rail corridor will cover 155.76 kilometres in Maharashtra, 4.3 kilometres in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and 348.04 kilometres in Gujarat, with 12 stations along the route. Upon completion, the bullet train will operate at 320 km per hour, covering the entire distance in approximately two hours with limited stops, and in three hours with all stops.
