The Indian Ministry of External Affairs, while responding to an indictment brought by the United States' Department of Justice against Adani Group officials, said this a legal matter involving private firms and the government has not received any request from the US related to it.

"This is a legal matter involving private firms and individuals and the US Department of Justice. There are established procedures and legal avenues in such cases which we believe would be followed. The Government of India was not informed in advance on the issue," the MEA said in a statement.

"Any request by a foreign government for service of summons/arrest warrant is part of mutual legal assistance. Such requests are examined on merits. We have not received any request on this case from the US side," the ministry added.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Adani Green Energy Ltd. clarified in a statement that Adani Group founder Gautam Adani, Adani Green Executive Director Sagar Adani, and the company's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Vneet Jaain have not been named in the bribery charges in the indictment filed by the US DoJ.

The company further claimed that the indictment offers no evidence that bribes were paid by Adani executives to Indian government officials.

Adani Group has termed the allegations as "baseless", and said it will pursue all possible legal recourse to challenge the charges.

“All of this is based on likelihoods and hearsay from former employees of Azure Power and CDPQ places the US DoJ's and US SEC's action against Adani on dangerously shaky ground – both morally and legally,” the conglomerate's renewable energy arm stated.
