Iran Revolutionary Guards Attacked on Restive Pakistan Border

Iran Revolutionary Guards Attacked on Restive Pakistan Border

Iran said militants attacked a car carrying Revolutionary Guard Corps engineers near the country's border with Pakistan on Tuesday, a week after clashes between fuel smugglers and security services in the area killed two people.

State-run IRIB News blamed Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni extremist organization, for the attack near the Bam Posht border post. It cited Mohammadhadi Marashi, deputy head of law enforcement in Sistan and Baluchestan province, without saying if there were casualties.

Traders who traffic fuel into Pakistan started protesting on Feb. 22 in the town of Saravan. Demonstrations intensified when security forces opened fire on a crowd that swarmed a border checkpoint, the semi-official Iranian Students' News Agency reported at the time.
