Reliance Jio said on Tuesday that a "high-end" model of its feature phone JioPhone will be available for online purchase on August 16. Reliance Jio said the JioPhone 2 will debut at Rs 2,999 in a flash sale from 12 pm on August 16. "JioPhone aims to accelerate the Digital Revolution in India with extreme affordability so that each and every Indian can access the internet and enjoy the Digital Life," Reliance Jio said. Reliance Jio had in July this year announced the launch of JioPhone 2.
Reliance Jio - the latest entrant in the country's telecom sector - said it was "well on its way to enable 100 million users on this JioPhone platform in the shortest possible time".
Users of JioPhone, the existing device in the JioPhone platform, will be able to access mobile apps Facebook, YouTube and Google Maps from August 15. Mobile app WhatsApp will be available on JioPhone devices soon, Reliance Jio said.
"JioPhone users are already enjoying free voice calls and a host of applications with premium content on the go such as JioTV, JioCinema, JioMusic and JioChat," the company added.
