Get Ready To Get Inked When You Go Exchange Cash At Banks

To ease the long queues at banks for exchange of notes, banks will put indelible ink, said Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das.

This is being done to prevent the people coming for repeated money exchange at banks, he said.

Mr Das said that the government is keeping a close watch on Jan Dhan accounts. He however said that legitimate deposits will not be put to any inconvenience.

People in large numbers queued up outside ATMs and banks today to withdraw currency notes from vending machines and exchange demonetised bills.

Banks were closed yesterday on account of Guru Nanak Jayanti in many parts of the country.

The limit of old and now defunct Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes that can be exchanged has been increased to Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,500 per day.

The weekly limit of Rs 20,000 for withdrawal from bank counters has been increased to Rs 24,000. The maximum limit of Rs 10,000 per day on such withdrawals has been removed.
