Bharat Electronics Ltd on Monday bagged a deal worth Rs 2,210 crore to supply advanced gear to the Indian Air Force.

The Ministry of Defence signed a contract to secure Electronic Warfare (EW) suites and aircraft modification kits as well as their installation on Mi-17 V5 helicopters, along with associated equipment, according to a statement.

The Russian-made Mi-17V-5 military and transport helicopter is designed to carry personnel, cargo and equipment inside the cargo cabin or on an external sling.

"This state-of-the-art EW Suite will considerably enhance operational survivability of the helicopters in a hostile environment. The majority of sub-assemblies and parts will be sourced from indigenous manufacturers," it said.

These systems are indigenously designed and developed by the Combat Aircraft Systems Development & Integration Centre and the Defence Research and Development Organisation and manufactured by BEL.

The EW suite comprises Radar Warning Receiver (RWR), Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) and Counter Measure Dispensing System (CMDS), which significantly enhance the combat survivability of the helicopters along with effective countermeasures, BEL said.

The contract takes Bharat Electronics' total order book to Rs 2,803 crore in the current financial year.

Shares of BEL closed 2.5% lower at Rs 273.15 apiece on the BSE, compared to a 2.95% decline in the benchmark Sensex. The stock has declined 6.8% year-to-date and risen 23% on a 12-month basis.
