Passenger Vehicle Sales See Slight Decline In May: SIAM

Passenger vehicle sales in May 2025 stood at 3.44 lakh units, marking a slight decline of 0.8%, compared to the same period last year, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers reported. Despite this marginal drop, the segment recorded its second-highest sales for the month of May.

In terms of production, the total output of passenger vehicles, three-wheelers, two-wheelers, and quadricycles in May 2025 was 25,82,207 units. Domestic sales figures for the month included 3,44,656 passenger vehicles, 53,942 three-wheelers, and 16,55,927 two-wheelers.

Year-on-year data shows that domestic two-wheeler sales reached 16.6 lakh units, domestic utility vehicle sales were at 1.97 lakh units, and domestic car sales totalled 93,951 units.

“All vehicle segments posted stable performance in May 2025. The passenger vehicles segment posted sales of 3.45 lakh units, though the second highest ever for May, the segment de-grew marginally by 0.8% compared to May 2024," said Rajesh Menon, director general of SIAM.

Three-wheelers de-grew by 3.3% year-on-year in May, with sales of 0.54 lakh units. Two-wheeler segment sales grew by 2.2% during the month, with sales of 16.56 lakh units, he noted.
