Xi Visits Finland as China Posts First Deficit Since 2002: Chart

(Bloomberg) -- En route to his Florida meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese leader Xi Jinping will stop in Helsinki Tuesday to meet Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinisto. The Nordic nation last year had its first trade surplus with the mainland since 2002 on a free-on-board basis, although Finland's economic output was barely 2 percent China's. Two-way trade was $5.9 billion, with an uptick in Finnish shipments of Stora Enso Oyj wood products and Nokia Oyj electronics helping beat a drop in Chinese steel, textiles and power-plant equipment.
