U.K.'s Brexit Heartland Lost Employee Jobs Last Year: Chart

(Bloomberg) -- Northeast England, one of the most pro-Brexit regions of the U.K., was the only part of the country to lose salaried jobs over the past year, according to the Office for National Statistics. The decline may help to explain why an area that has attracted foreign investors such as Nissan Motor Co. chose to quit the European Union. Unemployment has long been higher than average in the northeast, where 58 percent voted for “Leave” in the June 2016 referendum after a campaign that focused heavily on immigration and the pressure on living standards.
