The Israeli Embassy in India on Thursday said that the attack on two Indian workers in Ashkelon was absolutely unacceptable and the perpetrators have been arrested.

"The Israeli police have caught the perpetrators and will bring them to justice," said the Israeli Embassy in a post on X.

Denouncing the attack, Congress leader Pawan Khera termed it a premeditated racist assault, planned over private chats.

"This is not the first such attack. And sadly, it may not be the last," said Khera.

Khera also urged Jaishankar to urgently look into the matter, confirm the victim's condition, and ensure he has access to adequate, free-of-cost medical care if required.

The Hebrew caption in the video released on YouTube by the Israeli broadcaster Kan News reads, "Rioters from the south of the country plotted an attack, targeting the Indian workers in the neighborhood – and beating them violently in the heart of a public park."

Several social media users also praised Israel for its quick response.

"The strength of the India-Israel bond lies in mutual respect. Attacks on Indian nationals are unacceptable. Appreciate the Israeli police's quick response," said one user.

"Thank you for treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves," said another user, adding, "Both Israelis and Indians are welcomed and treated with affection in each other's countries. As a frequent visitor to Israel, I can personally attest to this hospitality and goodwill."

Meanwhile, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Israel later this month, an MoU was signed between India and Israel to deepen defence ties and strengthen ongoing joint activities.
