After Israel and the US launched joint strikes on Iran as part of a "wide, coordinated, and joint offensive" against the Islamic regime, social media users quickly reshared Donald Trump's old posts, where he mocked then president Barack Obama for his alleged hawkish views.
X users pulled out Trump's old tweets in which he predicted that Obama would attack Iran due to what he called "an inability to negotiate properly". More than a decade later, with military operations and tensions escalating, that post is circulating again but this time with Trump's name attached to it.
Trump's 2013 tweet read, "Remember that I predicted a long time ago that President Obama will attack Iran because of his inability to negotiate properly-not skilled!" [sic]

The comments were made against the backdrop of ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran, which would eventually lead to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal. Trump, however, withdrew the United States from that agreement in 2018 during his first term.
Another post from 2012 has also drew renewed attention. In it, Trump warned, "Don't let Obama play the Iran card in order to start a war in order to get elected."
Don't let Obama play the Iran card in order to start a war in order to get elected--be careful Republicans!

In 2011, Trump said that in order to get re-elected, Obama would start a war with Iran—a comment that has aged poorly.

Today, with the US launching strikes on Iran just ahead of the midterm elections, social media users have pointed out the parallels Trump once drew. One user wrote, "In 2013, Donald Trump said that an attack on Iran was "inevitable" and called Obama a bad negotiator. The same guy who called it "inevitable" then made damn sure it happened on his watch."
An enormous explosion rocked Iran's capital on Sunday as the Israeli military said it was targeting the heart of the city. Earlier, Iran fired missiles at targets in Israel and Gulf Arab states, after vowing massive retaliation for the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by the United States and Israel.
Khamenei's death in a joint Israeli-American airstrike on his Tehran office has thrown the future of the Islamic Republic into question and raised the risk of regional instability. Iran's Cabinet vowed that this "great crime will never go unanswered", and the paramilitary Revolutionary Guard threatened to launch its "most intense offensive operation" ever, targeting Israeli and American bases.
