Real Estate Leaders Discuss Affordable Housing, Slum Redevelopment In Mumbai

Prominent real estate veterans believe the outcome of Maharashtra’s elections could play a pivotal role in shaping the sector’s future. Anuj Puri, Chairman of Anarock Group, highlighted how a stable government aligned with the Centre could streamline approvals and boost infrastructure development, stating, “If there is stability, the clearance of projects will be smoother, policies consistent, and connectivity can expand.”

On affordable housing, Dhaval Ajmera, Director of Ajmera Realty, called for a redefinition of criteria, suggesting, “By removing the price cap and focusing on size alone—such as 600 square feet apartments—we could fundamentally reshape the market.”

Meanwhile, Boman Irani, CMD of Keystone Realtors, noted the government’s commitment to slum redevelopment, calling it “a great step toward making Mumbai slum-free.”

The trio also noted growing opportunities in commercial real estate, with key hotspots like Bandra Kurla Complex and Thane attracting new investments and projects.
