A nationwide mock drill exercise is set to be conducted in 244 cities on Wednesday, in the wake of rising tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir on April 22.
The key measures in the mock drill will comprise activating air raid warning sirens and training civilians and students on civil defence strategies for protection during a potential hostile attack.

Setting up shadow control rooms to assess command readiness
Switching off power in select areas to practice blackout protocols

Evacuation drills and rehearsals of localised safety plans

As part of the civil defence mock drill under 'Operation Abhyas,' drills to be conducted across all 22 districts of Haryana at 4 pm. Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi chaired a meeting to review the arrangements.
People have been requested to switch off all lights in their homes from 7.50 pm to 8 pm as a part of the drill.

As part of today's nationwide mock drill, the NDMC area in Delhi will experience a blackout from 8:00 pm to 8:15 pm.

A blackout was carried out at the BARC residential complex in Anushakti Nagar at 8 pm as part of the drill, while a similar blackout scheduled at Tarapur in Palghar district was cancelled, a senior officer told PTI.
Following the blaring of a siren, residents of the BARC complex were asked to evacuate their quarters to participate in the exercise. Officials sensitised them about the necessary precautions to take during emergency situations.

Amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir on April 22, India conducted a nationwide mock drill exercise in 244 cities on Wednesday.
Mock drills were conducted across multiple locations, including Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh following directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs. These exercises enabled authorities to simulate hostile scenarios and assess local-level preparedness.
The exercise entailed sounding of air raid sirens in urban and semi-urban areas, training of school students, civil volunteers, and residents in basic safety and protective measures as well as evacuation drills and rehearsals of localised safety plans among other activities.
Several locations across Mumbai, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Cross Maidan, experienced mock drills, while renowned landmarks such as Rashtrapati Bhavan, North and South Block, and Akshardham Temple, Statue of Unity experienced blackouts.
