(Bloomberg) -- A New York Republican emerged from a key tax meeting to say that he had urged his House colleagues not to end tax credits for the wind and solar industry early.
"We've made the case," Representative Tom Reed said in an interview following a meeting with Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee, which is planning on unveiling a broad rewrite of the nation's tax code on Wednesday. "I think it's gaining some traction, but nothing is done until it's done."
Congress voted to extend tax credits for both the wind and solar industries in 2015 as part of a broad deal that also ended ban on crude-oil exports, but Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt and other critics called for them to be terminated early.
Reed also said he made the pitch to his colleagues to renew similar tax credits for other energy sources, such as geothermal, small-scale wind and fuel cells. They were left out of the 2015 deal.
