Coming Soon To Your iPhone In India: Apple Intelligence In 'Localised English'
iPhone was the top-selling model in India for the Dec. quarter, and Apple seems to be “particularly keen on India.” CEO Tim Cook said it will bring Apple Intelligence in 'localised English' here too.

While Apple Intelligence has had its share of woes since its launch, what with a staggered rollout and users awaiting new features in subsequent iOS releases along with the recent pause of AI news summaries after a slew of erroneous content, the company isn’t side-stepping Apple Intelligence in any way.
On the contrary, Apple believes that its AI-powered features for iPhones and other devices will be crucial to business expansion in upcoming markets, and this was underlined during the company’s earnings call for the quarter ended December.
Apple Intelligence In Indian English To Arrive Soon
Apple CEO Tim Cook told analysts after the earnings call that the company will be bringing Apple Intelligence in “localised English” to India; most probably this could be part of iOS 18.4 update. This will be in addition to Apple Intelligence being made available in localised English in Singapore, along with other languages such as French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and simplified Chinese.
A localised English version for Apple Intelligence speaks well of the potential of the Indian market, where the iPhone was the top-selling model for the quarter. Cook underlined this by adding that the company is “particularly keen on India.”
“India set a December-quarter record during the quarter. The iPhone was the top selling model in India for the quarter, and it’s the second largest smartphone market in the world and the third largest for PCs and tablets,” Cook added.
Apple Intelligence Luring Users To New iPhones
According to Cook, along with sales of iPhone 16 actually being higher than those of the iPhone 15 throughout the same period from its debut date to the end of the calendar year, Apple Intelligence is persuading users to purchase new iPhones.
“Markets where we had rolled out Apple Intelligence during the [quarter] performed better on a year-over-year basis than markets where we had not,” Cook told analysts. “It’s a positive indicator that we were pleased with.”
Notably, Apple Intelligence was released in October last year, but only in US English. Users who wanted to enjoy AI capabilities but lived in other regions had to adjust their iPhone’s setting. Apple Intelligence was only completely accessible in other regions, including the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, by December.
Apple Intelligence: An Exciting New Frontier
Cook said that the company is unlocking new possibilities for users with Apple Intelligence, which makes apps and experiences even better and more personal. “Apple Intelligence opens up an exciting new frontier and is already elevating experiences across iPhone, iPad, and Mac,” he said.
Cook specifically mentioned Writing Tools, Image Playground, Genmoji, Visual Intelligence, and the Clean Up tool for photo editing when analysts asked which features users are utilising the most.
