Apple is expected to roll out its upgraded Siri with app-intent features next spring. The new and upgraded Siri was first showcased by the tech giant at the company’s WWDC 2024 event. However, the new Siri was not launched. Now, a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests that Apple is set to ship its brand new App Intents feature with an upgraded Siri next Spring.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is now set to launch the revamped Siri next spring with an upgraded version of the App Intents feature, allowing the AI voice assistant to work as a ‘hands-free controller’ for iPhone users.

The new features were initially expected to be launched during the iOS 18 release cycle. However, they should now launch by iOS 26.4, according to a report by 9to5Mac.

Meanwhile, Mark Gurman revealed that Apple engineers are working to address some concerns with the upgraded Siri.

“The plan now is to ship the feature alongside a broader Siri infrastructure overhaul in the spring and market it heavily. But there’s some concern inside the company, I’m told. Engineers have been struggling to ensure that the system works with a sufficient number of apps and is accurate enough to handle high-stakes scenarios,” the 9to5Mac report added, citing Gurman.

With the new and revamped version of Siri, App Intents users will be able to perform various actions within apps, apart from the usual voice command asking Siri to perform specific tasks, according to the Bloomberg report. The users can now use Siri to perform actions like commenting on an Instagram post, scrolling through a shopping app and adding products to their cart.

Apple is currently working with major iOS apps to fine-tune the App Intents feature and to ensure smooth compatibility with the upgraded Siri. The tech giant is working with Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp, according to the Bloomberg report.

The upgraded Siri will come with the ability to use apps with precision and inside their individual interfaces, the report added.

Apple is reportedly working with a number of large companies to conduct testing for the new version of Siri, ahead of the proposed launch. “The company is even considering ‘sharply limiting what Siri can do, or excluding those areas altogether’ for sensitive categories,” the 9to5Mac report claimed.

According to Gurman, Apple is not expected to roll out the revamped Siri universally on day one due to the high-stakes nature.
