Chennai Super Kings' defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5 has spilled beyond the boundary ropes, with the franchise formally lodging a complaint to the BCCI, alleging unsporting in-stadium conduct.
CSK's main issue stems from the DJ's choice of music and comments made during player dismissals during the match. CSK have alleged that the viral track “Dosa, Idli, Sambar, Chutney” was repeatedly played at key moments, particularly around dismissals, and that remarks over the public address system appeared to target their players.
The franchise has argued that the song, often used in memes to stereotype Tamil identity, was inappropriate in a competitive setting and contributed to what they described as a hostile environment.
CSK Flag 'Line Crossed' In Formal Complaint
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed to The Indian Express that the franchise has escalated the matter to the BCCI, stressing that while home support is expected, certain elements crossed acceptable limits. "The DJs are usually there to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering that, we have written to the BCCI to look into it.”
The complaint also references fan experience, with CSK supporters allegedly facing hostility in the stands which, according to the franchise, went beyond standard crowd behaviour in a high-profile IPL fixture.

Not The First Time: CSK's Own Precedent
The episode carries added context given CSK's own recent history on the issue, following a controversy last season involving Jitesh Sharma. RCB had published a video showing Jitesh singing the viral track ahead of their clash at the Chepauk, which wasn't well received by the CSK fans.
The DJ went on to play the track when the batter was dismissed in the game, a move that was later criticised by CSK with the management drawing up stricter guidelines around in-stadium conduct at Chepauk.
At the time, the franchise had moved to ensure opposition players were not mocked or singled out via music or announcements, ensuring a line is drawn between fan engagement and disrespect. That precedent has now been cited as part of their argument that similar standards should apply across venues.
'Dosa-Idli' Flashpoint Adds Rivalry Edge
On the field, RCB delivered a dominant performance in that game, posting 250/3 before bowling CSK out for 207 to seal a 43-run win. Tim David's unbeaten 70 off 25 balls headlined the innings, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar's three-wicket spell helped close out the result despite resistance from Sarfaraz Khan and Prashant Veer.
Off the field, however, the aftermath has sharpened the edge of a rivalry that continues to grow in intensity.
