Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday will launch the Life Insurance Corporation's Bima Sakhi Yojana, aimed to empower women by providing job opportunities and financial assistance. The scheme, which will be launched at an event in Panipat, Haryana, offers an opportunity for women to become insurance agents (Bima Sakhi).
Among those who are expected to be present at the event are Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and other key ministers from state and central governments.

Earnings
Under the scheme, rural women will have the opportunity to become insurance agents, called Bima Sakhi under the programme. The scheme offers financial assistance of up to Rs 7,000 per month.
As part of the scheme, the women can earn Rs 7,000 to Rs 21,000. While in the first year, they will receive Rs 7,000 per month, the second year will see this amount reduce to Rs 6,000. The third-year amount will further reduce to Rs 5,000 per month. Besides, the scheme offers an extra incentive of Rs 2,100. Commission-based rewards are also offered.

LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana: Eligibility And Recruitment
The scheme will kick off with the first phase recruiting 35,000 women as insurance agents with expansion to taking additional 50,000 women on board in the future. While initially it will be implemented only in the state of Haryana, it will be later extended to other parts of the country.
To qualify for the programme, women must be in the age group of 18 to 50 years. A minimum qualification of 10th grade is also required.
