⁠Mumbai Rains: IMD Issues 'Orange' Alert For Mumbai, Thane; Check Forecast For Other Maharashtra Districts

The IMD has issued weather alerts for Maharashtra from May 22 to 25, with forecasts of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and strong winds in several areas.

Mumbai Weather Forecast: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of alerts for various places in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad and Thane from May 22 to 25. The Met department has also issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Mumbai will be under an orange alert on May 23 and 24, while yellow alerts are in place for May 22 and 25. The city is expected to witness thunderstorms with lightning, heavy to very heavy rainfall and winds reaching 50 to 60 kmph, particularly during the two days under the orange alert.

Maharashtra Weather Forecast

In Palghar, an orange alert has been issued for May 23 and 24, with yellow alerts for May 22 and 25. The district is likely to experience similar weather conditions — thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall and strong winds — throughout the period.

Raigad faces the most severe conditions, with a red alert in place for May 23, warning of extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. Orange alerts have been issued for May 22, 24 and 25. In Thane, orange alerts are active from May 22 to 24, with a yellow alert for May 25. Thunderstorms with lightning, heavy to very heavy rainfall, and strong winds are expected at isolated locations, especially during the first three days.

In Ratnagiri, the IMD has issued a red alert for May 22 and 23, with forecasts of extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and winds. The district remains under an orange alert on May 24 and 25, with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at isolated places.

Sindhudurg is under an orange alert on all four days, from May 22 to 25. Districts such as Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon and Nasik are mostly under yellow alerts for all four days, except Nasik, which is under an orange alert on May 23.

Pune is under an orange alert on May 22 and 23, and a yellow alert on May 24 and 25. The city is expected to receive thunderstorms with lightning, heavy to very heavy rainfall and gusty winds on the first two days.

Districts such as Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Jalna and Beed are expected to experience either yellow or orange alerts from May 22 to 25. The IMD has forecast light to moderate showers, with occasional thunderstorms and strong winds across these regions.

Residents are advised to track the official IMD weather updates to ensure safety during the period of inclement weather.

Update On Southwest Monsoon

At 2:30 p.m. on May 22, the IMD bulletin stated that conditions are expected to favour the onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala within the next two to three days. The monsoon is also likely to advance further over parts of the south Arabian Sea, Maldives, Comorin area, Lakshadweep, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It is also expected to progress over regions in the south and central Bay of Bengal, the north Bay of Bengal and some Northeastern states during this period.
