The market breadth was tilted in favour of buyers. Seventeen out of 19 sector gauges compiled by BSE were trading higher led by the S&P BSE Utilities Index's 0.8 percent gain.
On the other hand, the S&P BSE Consumer Durables Index was the top sectoral loser, down 0.9 percent.
