Stock Market Highlights: Sensex, Nifty End Mixed After Five-Day Slump; Metals Drag
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 5.80 points, or 0.03% lower at 22,547.55, while the BSE Sensex closed 147.71 points or 0.20% higher at 74,602.12.

Indian benchmark indices ended Tuesday's session mixed, with the metal sector declining the most, while media emerged as a top sectoral gainer. On Monday, the markets closed with losses for the fifth consecutive session — the lowest since June 2024.
Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Bharti Airtel Ltd. were the top gainers during the day's trade, while Hindalco Industries Ltd. and Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. were the top laggards.
The NSE Nifty 50 ended 5.80 points, or 0.03% lower at 22,547.55, while the BSE Sensex closed 147.71 points or 0.20% higher at 74,602.12.
Intraday, Sensex gained 0.44% to 74,785.08.


The rupee fell the most since Feb. 3, slumping by 55 paise to reach a day’s low of 87.25 against the US Dollar. This marks the biggest intraday fall since early February. On Monday, the rupee had closed at 86.71 per dollar.
Shares of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., Bajaj Finance Ltd., Nestle India Ltd. and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. cushioned the fall in the Nifty 50.
While those of Hindalco, Dr. Reddy's, Trent Ltd., Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. and Hero MotoCorp Ltd. weighed the index.

On NSE, four of the 12 sectors advanced, and eight declined. Nifty Metal and Nifty Realty fell the most, and the Nifty Media and Nifty Auto gained the most.

The broader markets slipped, with the BSE Midcap ending lower by 0.46% and the BSE Smallcap down 0.34%.
On BSE, 14 out of 21 sectors gained. The BSE Metal and BSE Oil and Gas fell the most as they slipped 1.65% and 1.18%, respectively. BSE Telecommunications gained the most.
Market breadth was skewed in the favour of sellers. In total, 2,150 stocks declined, 1,713 stocks advanced, and 150 stocks remained unchanged on the BSE.
