The FTSE 100, a benchmark index of 100 companies listed on the London Stock Exchange, lost $143. 6 billion in market capitalisation over two trading sessions, on June 24 and 27. The loss is equal to the combined 2015 gross domestic product (GDP) of Sri Lanka and Kenya.
On June 24, the United Kingdom voted to ‘Leave' the European Union. Brexit, as the vote has been commonly referred to, has caused substantial volatility across global markets.
