Asian stocks began Tuesday slightly higher after modest gains lifted U.S. stocks to another record and ahead of China trade data that's expected to show healthy global demand. The Singapore traded SGX Nifty, an early indicator of NSE Nifty 50 index's performance in India, was little changed at 10,095 as of 6:47 a.m.

Global Cues

U.S.

  • The Dow Jones industrial Average notched its tenth straight record close. The index rose 25.61 points, 0.1 percent, to end at 22,118.42, led by Boeing and Goldman Sachs.
  • The S&P 500 climbed 0.16 percent to 2,480.91, its first record close since July 26.
  • The Nasdaq Composite outperformed, rising 0.51 percent to close at 6,383.77.

Europe

  • European equities slipped after a report showed German industrial data unexpectedly fell in June, with declines in travel and leisure shares offsetting advances for ArcelorMittal and Anglo American Plc after iron ore and steel prices increased.
  • FTSE ended higher 0.27 percent at 7531.94, CAC little changed at 5207.89, DAX down 0.33 percent at 12,257.17.

Asian Cues

Japan's Topix index rose less than 0.1 percent, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index added 0.2 percent. South Korea's Kospi index advanced 0.3 percent. Hang Seng Index futures slipped 0.2 percent.

The early indicator SGX Nifty was trading little changed at 10,091.

Commodity Cues

Oil traded near $49 a barrel as officials from Russia and Kuwait conducted meetings in Abu Dhabi with producers to examine why some are shirking their commitment to reduce output.

  • Brent crude trades lower at $52.21 a barrel
  • WTI crude down by 0.22 percent at $49.29 a barrel
  • Spot gold trades marginally up 0.05 percent at $1258.39,
  • ICE Sugar ended lower for a fifth straight session at 13.87, down 1.91 percent

Shanghai Exchange

  • Steel trades higher for eight consecutive session; up 0.95 percent
  • Aluminium trades higher; up 2.46 percent
  • Zinc trades higher for fourth straight session; up 2.20 percent
  • Copper trades up for fourth consecutive session; up 0.73 percent
  • Rubber after gaining for three consecutive session, is now trading lower; down 0.16 percent
