Asian equities kicked off August on a high note as the continued advance in commodities lifted shares of raw-material producers. The Singapore traded SGX Nifty, an early indicator of NSE Nifty 50 index's performance in India, fell 0.13 percent to 10,092 as of 6:30 a.m.

Global Cues
- The S&P 500 Index swung between gains and losses on light volume, but the gauge still posted its fourth straight monthly gain.
- The Dow Jones Industrial Average eked out a fresh record high.

Asian Cues
- Japan's Topix index added 0.4 percent. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 Index was up 0.2 percent. South Korea's Kospi index added 0.1 percent. Hang Seng Index futures were 0.1 percent lower.
- SGX Nifty indicates a muted start to trade for Indian equities (down 0.13 percent)
Commodity Cues
- West Texas Intermediate crude was flat at $50.17 a barrel, following six days of gains. Brent down 0.1 percent to $52.66 a barrel.
- Crude supplies forecast to fall 3.3 million barrels last week
- U.S. imports from OPEC slid 2.6 percent in May from April
- Copper capped its biggest monthly advance since January as demand held up in China and labor disputes and declining ore grades crimped supply.
