Sony Pictures announced the official title of their film based on the popular The Legend Of Zelda video game franchise, as per a post on 'X' from the production company, on Tuesday.
Titled The Legend Of Zelda, this is the first major motion picture adaption of the long-running game series, which released its first title in 1986.

The high fantasy action adventure franchise follows Link, a young boy of the Hylian race (which resembles elves) who forms an alliance with the Princess Zelda to save the land of Hyrule from the demon warlord known as Ganon. The evil king seeks a wish-granting relic known as the Tri-Force in order to reshape the world according to his ill intentions.
The film stars Bo Bragason as the titular Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth of House Of The Dragon fame as Link. It will also feature late actor Sam Neill in one of his final onscreen performances. Neill is best known for his role as Dr Alan Grant in Steven Speilberg's 1993 blockbuster Jurassic Park, died from pneumonia in July 13, 2026.
Directed by Wes Ball, the film will release on April 30, 2027.
One of developer Nintendo's flagship game franchises, rivalled in popularity by the likes of Super Mario Bros, The Legend Of Zelda series has had 21 mainline releases with the latest game a remake of 1998's Ocarina Of Time releasing on Nov. 5, 2026.

Video game deisgner Shigeru Miyamoto was inspired by his days exploring the nearby forests and and hillside areas near his childhood home in Sonobe, Japan as a young boy. His mission with the game was to bring a "miniature garden" to life for players.
Zelda's name was inspired by writer and socialite Zelda Fitzgerald, who was a prominent figure in the US during the Jazz Age period. Fitzgerald was best known for pioneering the 'flapper' subculture which took the nation by storm. She was also known for her husband F Scott Fitzgerald, who wrote 'The Great Gatsby', which many critics and historians regard as one of the 'Great American Novels'.
