A recent closed-door meeting at Aamir Khan's Mumbai residence, which saw the presence of several leading producers and studio heads, was not about a new collaboration as widely speculated but an attempt to resolve an ongoing dispute linked to Don 3, Hindustan Times reported.

Industry heavyweights including Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Ektaa Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar and Zee Entertainment's Punit Goenka were photographed leaving Aamir's home earlier this week, triggering buzz about a major project in the works.

However, people familiar with the development say the primary agenda was to find common ground between actor Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar's production banner, Excel Entertainment.

The dispute began after Ranveer stepped away from the much-anticipated third instalment of the Don franchise. Excel Entertainment is understood to have sought compensation reportedly amounting to Rs 40 crore, citing costs incurred during pre-production, scheduling adjustments and other preparatory work that had begun with the actor attached to the film.

Ranveer, however, is said to have opposed the demand. According to the report, the actor stepped away from the project over creative concerns, including the absence of a bound script and dissatisfaction with the way the film was being managed.

He has also maintained that he did not accept any signing amount and had blocked his dates for the film, resulting in other opportunities — including Baiju Bawra — being put on hold.

While the Producers Guild of India had previously stepped in to mediate, the latest discussions at Aamir Khan's home are seen as a quieter, informal effort to reach common ground. Known for his strong industry equations, Aamir is understood to be facilitating talks in a neutral capacity.

Neither Ranveer Singh nor Excel Entertainment has issued an official statement so far, and the details of the discussions remain confidential. It is also unclear whether the intervention will lead to a financial settlement or a formal closure of the dispute.

With Don 3 carrying significant franchise value and mounting pre-production costs, the outcome of these talks is crucial. A resolution could unlock the film's next phase, while a prolonged stalemate may further delay its timeline.
