Supreme Court Reserves Judgement In Plea Seeking SIT Probe Into Bribery Allegations
The Supreme Court reserved its judgement on a petition seeking a probe by a special investigation team into allegations that bribes were sought to influence the outcome of a case being heard in the top court.
The Central Bureau of Investigation had filed a first information report naming a retired Odisha High Court judge and a few middlemen for conspiring to influence the case related to a medical college.
A three-judge bench heard the petition filed by Citizens for Judicial Accountability and Reforms. The bench earlier rejected a similar plea by lawyer Kamini Jaiswal for a court-monitored SIT probe.
Attorney General of India KK Venugopal argued that the judgement in Jaiswal's petition dealt with similar issues and the court must not go into them again.

The petitioners, however, argued that such a sensitive investigation must not be left in the hands of the CBI and there was a need for an independent SIT probe.
After hearing both the parties, the Supreme Court reserved the order giving no specific date for the judgement.
