Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday condemned the New Orleans terrorist attack on New Year's Eve. At least 15 people were killed and more than 30 injured after a pickup truck barreled through the French Quarter in New Orleans in what authorities are describing as a deliberate act of violence during New Year's celebrations.
The attack occurred around 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday near the intersection of Canal and Bourbon streets, New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick said at a press conference.
"We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families," he shared on his X profile.

Authorities are now investigating potential ties between the suspect, a 42-year-old Army veteran from Texas, and the Islamic State terrorist group. The suspect, identified as Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, was killed in a shootout with police after crashing his rented truck.
New Orleans is renowned for its New Year's celebrations, which draw thousands to the bar-lined French Quarter each year, with live music and fireworks. The city had been set to host college football's Sugar Bowl at the Caesars Superdome on Wednesday with a parade through the French Quarter.
The attack, described as one of the deadliest in recent city history, has also forced the postponement of the Sugar Bowl on Thursday as officials work to reassure residents and visitors of their safety, as per Bloomberg report.
