The updated Social Science textbook for Class 8, launched by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on Monday, features a segment on "judicial corruption" as part of a chapter titled "The judiciary's role within our society.”

This chapter outlines "corruption across various tiers of the judiciary" and "an extensive backlog…due to numerous factors, such as insufficient judges, complex legal processes, and inadequate infrastructure" among the "obstacles" encountered by the judicial framework.

The previous textbook merely outlined the role of the judiciary, defined what an independent judiciary entails, detailed the court structure, and described public access, with no reference to corruption. Nonetheless, it did include a paragraph indicating that a significant issue impacting the average person's access to justice is the protracted duration courts take to adjudicate a case. "The expression 'justice delayed is justice denied' is frequently used to describe this prolonged timeframe that courts require," it stated.
