India's Modi Says Dialogue Is Sole Way to Resolve Conflicts

India’s Modi Says Dialogue Is Sole Way to Resolve Conflicts

(Bloomberg) -- Dialogue is the only way to resolve conflict between nations and in societies, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.

“Samvad or dialogue is the only way to cut through deep-rooted religious stereotypes and prejudices that divide communities across the world and sow seeds of conflict between nations and societies," Modi said via a video message at a conference in Yangon, Myanmar. Differences over climate change can also be resolved through debate and discussion, he said.

Modi's comments come amid a border standoff between India and China in the Himalayas and an increasingly protracted diplomatic impasse. New Delhi has been wary of Chinese investments in neighboring Pakistan and Sri Lanka, while Beijing is irked by India's lack of support for its global Belt and Road initiative.
