Delhi Police Constable Shoots Dead Delivery Executive After Argument, Arrested

A Delhi police constable posted with the special cell allegedly shot dead a 21-year-old delivery executive and injured his friend following an argument in southwest Delhi's Jafarpur Kalan area early Sunday.

The deceased victim has been identified as Pandav Kumar, a food delivery executive, while the injured individual is Krishan, 30.

Preliminary enquiry has revealed the duo along with others had gathered at a house in the locality to attend a child's second birthday party. After the party, the group was on the road, while dispersing when the accused, identified as Neeraj Balhara, reportedly confronted them.

An argument ensued following which Balhara allegedly opened fire at Kumar from point-blank range while the latter was still seated on his motorcycle. A single bullet pierced Kumar's chest and exited his body before striking Krishan, who was seated pillion, on the right side of his abdomen.

The victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared Kumar brought dead.
The accused's specific rank has not yet been officially confirmed, but the victim's family , claims he is a head constable.

Kumar's family has said the attack was unprovoked and that Balhara was intoxicated at the time. According to the family, the confrontation turned ugly after the accused questioned Kumar about his identity before discharging his weapon.

"The moment he got to know we are from Bihar, he opened fire and fled," Pandav's mother, Meena Devi, has alleged.

According to investigation, Balhara is a native of Bahu Akbarpur village, located in the Rohtak district of Haryana. He has reportedly been living alone in the Jaffarpur Kalan area for several years while serving in the police force.

The accused had switched off his phone and absconded after the crime, but he was apprehended late Sunday evening near Rohtak and handed over to the local police, according to a report in The Times of India.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
