(Bloomberg) -- Austria will repeat its presidential election on Oct. 2, Chancellor Christian Kern told reporters in Vienna on Tuesday following a weekly ministerial meeting.
The new vote follows Friday's Constitutional Court ruling that upheld the nationalist Freedom Party's challenge to the May 22 runoff election. Freedom's Norbert Hofer, lost the election to Alexander Van der Bellen by slightly more than 30,000 votes out of more than 4.5 million cast.
