Vajpayee’s Void Can Never be Filled: PM Modi Pays Last Tribute
India’s former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee passed away on 16 August. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his last tribute to Atal Bihari Vajpayee who passed away on the evening of Thursday, 16 August in New Delhi's AIIMS.

As the country mourned the loss of one of its charismatic prime ministers, well-wishers thronged Vajpayee's residence where his mortal remains have been kept, wrapped in tricolour.

Tomorrow, 17 August, his body will be brought to the BJP headquarters at 9 AM, following which he will be accorded state funeral at Smriti Sthal.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee Admitted to AIIMS

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who has been ailing for long, was, on 11 June, admitted to AIIMS for a routine check-up, the BJP said in a statement in New Delhi.

The hospital, in a statement, said that Vajpayee's condition is stable and a team of doctors under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria is conducting a number of routine tests. Dr Guleria serves as the director of AIIMS.

The BJP leader ruled India as prime minister for thirteen days in 1996, following which he again took the office for 13 months from 1998-99, before finally pulling a complete five-year stint as PM from 1999-2004.

As his health deteriorated, he slowly withdrew from public life and has been confined to his residence for the last few years.

Rahul Gandhi Visits Vajpayee

Shortly after Vajpayee was hospitalised, Congress President Rahul Gandhi visited the former prime minister at AIIMS, on the evening of 11 June.
