The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially switched to campaign mode for the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab.
Arvind Kejriwal, who is AAP's national convenor, is on a three-day trip to Punjab, announced the party's youth manifesto on 3 July 2016. The announcement was made at a rally of young voters.
Taking a cue from its Delhi manifesto, AAP has made some tall claims in the youth manifesto in hope of taking an early lead against its political rivals.
Here are the key promises from the manifesto:
- Free Wi-Fi hotspots to be set up in villages, cities and government colleges to help provide connectivity to hundreds of thousands of youths in both rural and urban areas.
- “Annihilation” of the drug supply chain within the first month of the AAP government coming into power. Special law to give imprisonment till death for drug dealers. Assets of all such convicts would be seized and auctioned.
- Anti-drug help line number to be setup and a special drug task force will be created for crackdown on sale and supply of drugs along with high-level investigations to investigate the involvement of politicians and police officers in drug trade.
- Promise of 25 lakh jobs in five years. Efforts to create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in both rural and urban areas. ‘Start-up incubation centres' for entrpreneurs, called Punjab Launch Pads, will be set up in 10 major cities.
- 147 entrepreneurship and skilling centres will be setup, one in each block of the state. Special emphasis will be laid on agriculture and allied industries, including food processing, dairy farming and horticulture.
- A foreign Employment Youth Board with five branches in Jalandhar, Amritsar, Mohali, Ludhiana and Sangrur will be established to advise and train the youth for foreign jobs.
- A skill university, called Kanshi Ram Youth Skill University, will be set up in Doaba Region, with two regional campuses in Malwa and Majha.
- Youths to be preferred when awarding government contracts. No MP, MLA, minister and their relatives will be eligible for government contracts.
- All “Politically motivated and false cases” against the youth will be withdrawn.
