A fire broke out in the neo-natal unit of Amravati District Women's Hospital in the early hours of Sunday, taking lives of three infants after a gas cylinder in a Ventilator caught fire and the blaze spread to other parts of the hospital's third floor.
The blaze broke out around 3:30 a.m. inside the hospital's Special Newborn Care Unit, which was accommodating 39 infants at the time, NDTV reported.
Medical staff on duty rushed to unplug equipment and carry the babies out of the ward as fire spread through the unit, IANS said.
Three of the newborns succumbed to burn injuries and smoke exposure, while six others in serious condition were rushed to a super-speciality hospital nearby for advanced care.
Footage from inside the unit, captured around 6:26 a.m. once the fire had been brought under control, shows the scale of the damage.

In the first clip, a neonatal cot and several trolleys can be seen charred and deformed. The metal frame is also bent, and the cable is fused to the floor. In the second clip, part of the ceiling can be seen, which has cracked and turned black. One of the air vents is also torn down, dangling from the ceiling.

A visual reveals a cluster of equipment, among it what looks like an infant warmer, coated in ash and heat-blistered, standing beside upturned trolleys and tangled wiring strewn across the ward floor.
The roughly 36-second recording captures just how quickly the fire consumed the confined space where dozens of newborns had been under care.
The tragedy has reignited questions over fire-safety compliance in intensive-care and neonatal units at government hospitals.
Details on the identities of the newborns who died and the condition of the six undergoing treatment, are yet to emerge.
