An Air India flight bound for New Delhi aborted its take-off at full speed at the Mumbai International Airport on Tuesday following urgent instructions from Air Traffic Control (ATC).

Flight AI816 safely returned to the bay after the high-speed abort. The flight was being operated by a 16-year-old Boeing 777-300, registered as VT-ALT.

Confirming the incident to NDTV Profit, an Air India spokesperson said the crew operating flight AI816 from Mumbai to Delhi on July 7 discontinued the take-off run after receiving an instruction to do so from the Air Traffic Control.

The airline stated that the Boeing 777 will now undergo necessary technical checks in strict accordance with standard operating procedures.

Air India expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to travelers, adding that alternative arrangements are currently being made to fly the stranded passengers to their destination at the earliest.
