Foreign and domestic institutions together invested Rs 35,235 crore in India's equity markets in three months ended March – the highest in six years.

The last time India's equity markets saw higher institutional inflows was in October-December 2010 at Rs 40,197 crore.

Investments in the fourth quarter of financial year 2016-17 pushed the Nifty 50 Index to new lifetime highs, with a return of 12 percent. That compares with 1.7 percent gain despite the large inflows in the third quarter of financial year 2010-11.
