With Salman Khan's 'Kick', Sajid Sets New Record
Salman Khan-starrer 'Kick' has set yet another record, for being the highest grossing film for a debutant director. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala who made his directorial debut with 'Kick' beat Arbaaz Khan's record of grossing Rs 155 crore at the box office with his first directorial venture, 'Dabangg 2'.
'Dabangg 2' crossed Rs 155 crore at the box office, whereas 'Kick' in its very first week went past Rs 160 crore. Now that 'Kick' collections have crossed Rs 200 crore, Mr Nadiadwala also holds the distinction to be the only debutant director to be part of the Rs 200- crore club.
"#Kick [Week 2] Fri 9.22 cr, Sat 10.62 cr, Sun 14.18 cr, Mon 5.08 cr, Tue 4.21 cr. Total: Rs 207.38 cr nett. BLOCKBUSTER! (sic)," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Wednesday.
'Kick' is already the biggest grosser so far this year. The other Rs 100 crore grossers of 2014 so far have been 'Jai Ho', '2 States', 'Holiday' and 'Ek Villain', Mr Adarsh said.
'Kick' released on Friday, July 25 and grossed Rs. 100 crore in box-office collections in its very first weekend.
The film's success makes Salman Khan the first Bollywood actor to have seven Rs 100 crore movies to his credit, according to Mr Adarsh: 'Ek Tha Tiger', 'Dabangg 2', 'Bodyguard', 'Dabangg', 'Ready', and 'Jai Ho'.
'Kick' has also surpassed Aamir Khan- starrer 3 Idiots' business in the domestic market. '3 Idiots' had grossed Rs 202.46 crore in India. It is also Salman Khan's highest grossing film ever.
'Kick', released under the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner is a remake of the hit 2009 Telugu film of the same name and the screenplay for the hindi version was adapted by author Chetan Bhagat and Sajid Nadiadwala.
'Kick' stars Salman Khan in the lead role, alongside Jacqueline Fernandez, Randeep Hooda, Mithun Chakraborty and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
