Democrat Unseats GOP’s Scott Walker in Wisconsin Governor’s Election

Wisconsin Governor Race Too Close to Call, With Recount Possible

(Bloomberg) -- Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker lost to Democrat Tony Evers, the AP projected, which would halt the rise of the one-time GOP darling in one of the nation's key swing states that had helped deliver the presidency to Donald Trump.

Yet the race was so close that a recount was possible.

Follow state-by-state election results in real time with Bloomberg's live tracker for the 2018 U.S. midterm elections.

With 99 percent of precincts reporting early Wednesday, Evers had a slight lead at 1,313,836 votes to Walker's 1,284,786, AP data showed. According to the Wisconsin Elections Commission, a candidate who loses within a 1 percentage point margin of the winner's total votes may request a recount of the results.

Walker's running mate, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, said in a statement: “We are preparing for the likelihood of a recount.” The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that counting the votes again could take weeks.
