Nemetschek Is Said to Explore Sale of James Bond's 3-D Software

None

(Bloomberg) -- German software provider Nemetschek SE is exploring a sale of technology used to create graphics in films such as the James Bond thriller Spectre and Spider-Man 3, according to people familiar with the matter.

The company's media and entertainment business -- which includes the Maxon Computer unit that makes Cinema 4D software for 3-D modeling, animation and rendering -- could attract technology firms and financial investors such as buyout firm HGCapital, which owns computer graphics company Foundry Visionmongers Ltd., the people said, asking not to be identified because the deliberations are private.

No formal sale process has started, and Nemetschek may still decide to retain the unit, the people said. Representatives for the Munich-based company and HgCapital declined to comment.

The company generated most of its 337.3 million euros ($399.1 million) in 2016 sales from products for the construction, architecture and real estate management industries. Revenue at Nemetschek's media and entertainment business climbed 8.7 percent from a year earlier to 21.8 million euros, the company said. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization rose to 8.4 million euros.

Shares of Nemetschek, founded in 1963 by Deputy Chairman Georg Nemetschek, have climbed 19 percent this year, valuing the entire business at about 2.5 billion euros.
