Los Angeles Blamed for Getty Fire by Owners of Destroyed Home

(Bloomberg) -- The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was hit was a legal claim for the Getty wildfire that burned more than 700 acres over nine days starting in late October.

The complaint was filed by the owners of a multimillion-dollar, 1,540-square foot home in the city's affluent Brentwood neighborhood, one of 27 homes allegedly destroyed or damaged by the blaze.

The city utility knew for years about the dangerous condition of its electrical system infrastructure and could have prevented the fire with proper vegetation management, according to the government claim, which seeks monetary damages.

“LADWP has been acutely aware of these risks and their catastrophic results for a significant period of time,” according to the complaint.
